Research Overview

Quantum manipulation and simulation on many-body quantum systems

Large-scale qubit systems such as ultracold atoms trapped in optical lattices and arrays of superconductive Josephson junctions are the basis for scalable quantum computation. They can also be used as a powerful tool to simulate many-body quantum systems. We are searching for new methods to more effectively control and manipulate scalable quantum systems that are known to be valuable for quantum simulation. We are also examining more exotic and less understood physical systems for potentially more feasible realization of quantum computation and quantum simulation.

Investigation of many-body physics via concepts and methods in quantum information theory

Quantum entanglement is one of the most significant new concepts in quantum information theory. At present, characterization and quantification of multipartite entanglement remains a major challenge in the research of quantum information science. It is our belief that accurate understanding of the structure of multipartite entanglement will help tremendously in the study of many-body quantum systems. Our research focuses on the quantification and classification of multipartite entanglement, with the goal to reveal the physics of quantum phase transitions in many-body systems via concepts and methods in quantum information science.
